1000 TIME Covers: Thinking Inside the (Red) Box.

Arthur Hochstein, TIME Art Director for 15 Years, on Making Weekly Covers with the Famous Red Box.

On Wednesday, October 27th, please join us in welcoming Arthur Hochstein to the SPD Speakeasy to talk about his greatest hits, favorite never-seens, and all the in-betweens that went into making over 1000 covers of TIME Magazine. Longtime collaborator, artist Matt Mahurin, will introduce the night, and we'll all get a better sense of the secrets behind making a mass-market cover jump out from a crowded newsstand, and the power of the page.

Hosted By

The Society of Publication Designers (SPD)

SPD is a membership organization dedicated to promoting and encouraging excellence in editorial design across all print and digital platforms.  Our members are art directors, designers, photo editors, photographers, illustrators and information graphics professionals, editors and students.

Since drafting its charter in 1965, SPD remains the only organization specifically addressing the visual concerns of print and digital editorial professionals, whether that be journalism, storytelling, service or more. Editorial design plays a crucial role in shaping and documenting our common history; as such, the efforts of the Society serve to educate and enlighten our members, and the general public about the importance of magazines, newspapers, and other publications.
